Well Marked Low in Arabian Sea, while Bay awaits its turn.

Yesterday saw many places in interior Tamil Nadu getting heavy rains.  In particular Virudhunagar, Salem & Coimbatore districts received fairly widespread rainfall with a few places getting heavy rainfall.  Sivakasi in Virudhunagar district received 67 mm till 9 PM while Manachanallur in Trichy district recorded 52 mm rains.

Northeast Monsoon Update: Northeast Monsoon continues to be active over the interior places of Tamil Nadu with fairly wide spread rainfall in the interior places.  In the meanwhile the Low Pressure off Karnataka Coast has become a well marked LPA in Arabian Sea and is expected to become a depression over the next 24 hours.While this Well Marked LPA is unlikely to impact the Indian mainland drastically it is expected to provide rainfall to the west coast of the country along Kerala & Karnataka coasts. Over the next few days it is expected to move in a Westerly direction towards the Yemen peninsula once again.

With Arabian Sea bringing up the second disturbance in less than a fortnight Bay of Bengal is expected to churn out its own disturbance in the days to come with models indicate possible development of Tropical Disturbance in South Bay.  Numeric Models indicate the development of a Low Pressure Area in South Bay from the current Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation in the Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining South Bay.

After a few days of widespread rains over most parts of Interior TN the rains are expected to slow down for a couple of days & depending on the evolution of the Tropical Disturbance in the Bay expected to pick again.  North TN could see reduced rainfall activity today with rains isolated along the coastal region with one or two places around Pondicherry getting moderate rains.

Western TN around Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Karur & Erode could see another day of rains with one or two places getting heavy spells.  South TN could see yesterday’s spells of rains continue with places around Dindigul, Madurai & Thootukudi seeing moderate rains with one or two places getting heavy spells of rains.

Chennai Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies with chance of morning rains and on and off spells of rains to continue around afternoon for many places of the city.  Day time temperature is expected to be around 31°
