As Tamil Nadu goes through a lean patch of rains for the past few days the day time temperature has been staying well above normal for the past few days as well. Chennai was no exception yesterday with Nungambakkam nearly touching 35 degrees while Meenambakkam recorded 35.5 degrees as maximum temperature.
Nungambakkam IMD observatory was more than 3 degrees above normal for this time of the year while Meenambakkam was about 1.4 degrees above normal. Clear skies & dry conditions certainly added to the heat factor as well. The trend of warm days in Tamil Nadu for the past few days is likely to continue today as well with above average temperature estimated by most numerical models.
With less moisture in the air and Northerly winds at most times of the day for the next day or two we are expected to see these abnormal temperatures continue before the seasonal wind change happen to Easerlies around Tuesday / Wednesday bringing in the much needed respite along with the expectation towards Northeast Monsoon
Today also we are likely to see isolated rains in Tamil Nadu with places in South TN and along the western ghats ideally placed for a spell or two of moderate spells at times. Yesterday Delta districts got decent rains after a long break which was much needed for the farmers who have started their cultivation in anticipation of Northeast Monsoon. We could possibly see one or two places in Coastal TN also get spells of thunderstorms later in the evening.
