Since the turn of the week Thunderstorms have been checking in over many parts of Tamil Nadu regularly. While Chennai misses out on the more intense Thunderstorms for the third straight day yesterday places about 50 KM’s to the West of the city has been enjoying a very good spell.
Yesterday saw parts of Kanchipuram, Vellore and Tiruvallur districts record good rains. Crucially delta has been seeing these Veppasalanam Thunderstorms almost on a daily basis this week. Manalmedu in Nagapattinam district recorded 24 mm yesterday evening after recording 64 mm the previous day evening.
Models indicate another day of thunderstorms over many parts of Tamil Nadu today too. There’s a strong band of lower level convergence that is seen developing over South TN in the afternoon and climbing up the latitude as the evening progresses. Places around Madurai and to the NW of Chennai could potentially be the Hotspots for Thunderstorms today evening.
After three straight misses could Chennai benefit from a change in wind direction. Billion dollar question.
