The thunderstorm season in Tamil Nadu continues with many places getting decent spell of rains bringing relief from the prevailing heat and also as some support to ground water recharge. News Reports confirmed parts of Sivaganga district recorded hailstorms yesterday as South Tamil Nadu enjoyed one of the best spells of rains since the start of summer. The much parched Virudhunagar district recorded very good rains last evening.
Similarly Erode & Tiruppur districts also recorded rains at many places a few hours subsequently as the storms moved from East to West. Isolated places in Karur, Namakkal, Permbalur, Trichy, Madurai and Dindigul also recorded spells of afternoon rains after a fairly hot day in most parts of the State.
Tiruttani & Vellore were once again the hottest places in the state as North Interior Tamil Nadu continued to be under the grip of hot conditions. While Chennai Nungambakkam was moderated by the advent of sea breeze no such luck was seen for the suburbs of Chennai as many places around the city including the airport observatory recorded temperatures in the region of 39°C
While the overall trend for the state will be that of heat and hot conditions Tamil Nadu’s tryst with the thunderstorm season though continues with another day of thunderstorms expected on account of the trough that is running along Peninsular India bringing in the instability needed after what will be another hot day ahead across the state. Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Ariyalur and parts of Tiruchirappalli districts could be the hottest areas of the state as places like Vellore / Tiruvallur could enjoy some respite from the heat wave like conditions prevailing.
Late evening thunderstorms are likely to happen over North Interior Tamil Nadu and the adjoining parts of Rayalaseema region of South Andhra Pradesh possibly aided by the broken Eastern Ghat ranges around Tirupati / Nagalapuram. Some models indicate parts of Tiruvallur district could benefit from these showers and if lucky one or two suburbs of Chennai could see a spell or two of evening rains bringing in some relief.
