Slowly but steadily Tamil Nadu weather is shifting to the Extreme Heat mode with another day of state wide heating expected. Yesterday saw Vellore, Trichy, Tiruttani & Karur record temperatures in excess of 40 degrees while Chennai Airport came very close to scoring a century (100F) first time for the month of April.
Models indicate the temperatures to notch up a degree or two higher today over most parts of North Tamil Nadu with particularly the interior places coming under some fairly oppressive conditions over the districts of Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur & Villupuram etc. Quite a few places in these districts are expected to cross 40 degrees and one or two places could see 41 / 42 degrees recorded as well. Thanks to the strong surface level breeze expected in North Tamil Nadu we could possibly see very uncomfortable conditions prevail over the state during the afternoon.
The coastal areas will also see increased temperatures due to more Westerly winds expected today compared the last few days. Models indicate Chennai temperatures to be 3 degrees above normal today with possibly the suburbs potentially being closer to 38 degrees compared to the city. We could possibly see Chennai Airport score a century today as well with the city observatory recording temperatures close to 36 / 37 degrees.
