Under the influence of the East West Shear Zone and the two circulations on either side of the Peninsula yesterday most places of Interior TN received rains with heavy spells of rains over Salem, Vellore & Erode districts. Yercaud received 120 mm till 11:30 PM while Vaniyambadi received 46 mm. Many areas in Chennai also received rains in the afternoon with Kolapakkam to the west of Airport receiving 26 mm rain.
Peninsular India continues to be get heavy rainfall under the influence of the retreating Southwest Monsoon. The Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation currently in Arabian Sea near Lakshadweep Islands is expected to become a Low Pressure Area (LPA) within the next 24 – 48 hours. Under its influence West Coast could get heavy spells of rains in the days to come.
Peninsular India will continue to benefit from the wind instability created by the changing wind patterns as Southwest Monsoon bids farewell and Northeast Monsoon gets ready to provide its share of rains to Tamil Nadu. Parts of Karnataka around Hubli, Belgaum, Davangare & Tumkuru could see a few spells of heavy rains on 6th.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies over most parts of TN with temperatures around 34°C expected in the plains of North TN. One or two places in South TN could cross 35°C. As has been the case for the last few days parts of North TN could get spells of rains in the late afternoon / evening. Areas around Hosur, Tiruvannamalai, Salem & Erode could get isolated heavy spells of rains. There is a possibility for the Coastal stretch between Marakkanam & Nagapattinam get some good rains towards late night. In South TN the coastal stretch near Thootukudi could get one or two spells of rains.
Chennai Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies with day time temperature expected to touch around 33°C. There is a faint possibility for one or two areas receive spells of passing showers early in the morning, particularly around the coastal zone, towards late afternoon / evening there is some possibility of rains in the Western & Southern suburbs.
