Yesterday Chennai saw cloudy skies right through the day with temperature not crossing 35°C though thanks to the cloud cover Humidity was high making it uncomfortable. While there was some late night thunderstorms brewing to the West of Chennai, unfortunately they did not make the journey to the coast providing no rainfall opportunities for Chennai.
Southwest Monsoon Update: Southwest Monsoon continues to be driven by the dual disturbance at either end of the Indian Peninsula. The Depression in West India is now a Well Marked Low over Gujarat that is now expected to move NW and possibly come under the influence of the incoming Western Disturbance. This is is expected to give another day of good rains to parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Parts of Maharasthra & MP could get isolated heavy spells of rains.
On the other end of the Peninsula the Low Pressure Area (LPA) in Bay of Bengal continues to move in a N/NW direction towards the Peninsula. Now currently lying off the coast of Odisha / WB it could move over land in the next 12-24 hours. Under the influence of the LPA heavy rains are expected over most parts of East & Northeast India with Odisha, Jharkhand & West Bengal expected to get some heavy spells of rains.
Most parts of West Peninsular Coast could get rains today as well thanks to the low level westerlies bringing in the moisture. North Coastal AP could get isolated spells of heavy rains under the influence of the LPA. Parts of Rayalseema and adjoining places of South Karnataka could get evening convective thunderstorms. Places near Tirupati could get heavy spells of rains from these convective thunderstorms. Bangalore could see some isolated thunderstorms developing towards the evening.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update: North TN is expected to see partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 35°C in the plains. Towards late evening convective thunderstorms are expected to provide rains to some parts of North TN particularly around the region of Vellore / Tiruvannamalai. There is some possibility of isolated rains happening over parts of West TN around Salem / Dharmapuri region. The North Coastal TN stretch between Pondicherry & Nagapattinam could also see some late evening thunderstorms along with some parts of the Delta region. South TN could have fairly dull day in terms of weather except for possibly hot conditions over a few places surrounding Madurai.
Chennai Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies with day time temperatures expected to settle around 34°-35°C. Towards late evening / night there is a possibility of rains as thunderstorms from the interior places of North TN move towards the coast.
