In a welcome relief for Interior Tamil Nadu rains lashed many places yesterday. Districts like Coimbatore, Karur, Salem, Namakkal, Thiruvannamalai, Perambalur, Tiruchirapalli and Karur saw many places record thunderstorms accompanied by heavy spells of rains. The rains that started late in the evening continued till middle of the night. Similarly few places in Villupuram, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts also got spells of rains during the afternoon / evening.
Consequent to the thunderstorms last night we could see partly cloudy skies today across the state through the remnant moisture that might still be present in the atmosphere leading to a reduction in temperatures today bringing relief from the oppressive heat that the interior regions have been seeing for the last few weeks.
As one can see from the map above temperatures are expected to stay lower than the last couple of weeks across the state with visible difference seen in the Western Tamil Nadu region around Salem / Coimbatore etc where temperatures are expected to stay around 35 degrees a good 3 / 4 degrees lesser than a couple of days back. Similarly North Interior Tamil Nadu is likely to see some reduction in temperatures as well. Chennai could possibly see a maximum temperature of around 35 degrees while the suburbs could see a degree or two higher.
Today also we are likely to see for parts of Interior Tamil Nadu rains in one or two places. Rains are likely around Northwest Tamil Nadu in the region adjoining South AP & Karnataka region around Krishnagiri / Chittoor / Kolar / Madanapallee region. Isolated rains may be possible in South TN as well particularly around Madurai and possibly down South under the influence of the Line of Wind Discontinuity that still persists.
