Southwest Monsoon gets into a Slumber

Reading Time: < 1 minute

After a few days of rainy weather yesterday saw extremely isolated rains over few places Red Hills, Puzhal & Tiruvottiyur.  Localized thunderstorm development gave these areas rains in the afternoon while most parts of the city had a dry day

Southwest Monsoon Update: It is going to be a few days with rains over few pockets of Northeast & East India as the rest of the country pretty much goes through dry days.  The Monsoon axis is glued to Himalayas and with a feeble UAC in East India that is not yet clear if it would evolve into a Low to trigger the slumbering Southwest Monsoon back into action.  The offshore trough over west coast continues to be weak providing for some moisture incursion but the rains are far too less and isolated to make it meaningful.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Fairly dry weather expected for most parts of Tamil Nadu except for some isolated spells of rains in the Western Ghats around Nilgiris / Valparai.  Most places of North TN could see temperatures around 35°C with one or two places in North Coastal TN getting extremely isolated thunderstorms.  The skies will be clearer compared to the last few days.

Chennai Weather Update: Warm clear day on the cards with temperatures around 35°C.  Towards late evening / night one or two areas could get passing showers from isolated thunderstorms.  Widespread rains are unlikely.
