The last two days have seen many places in Delta districts record moderate to heavy spells of rains making things extremely difficult for the people still reeling under the effects of Cyclone Gaja last week. Even at the time of making this post heavy spells of rains are lashing parts of Thiruvarur & Nagappattinam districts. Places like Adirampattinam, Nagappattinam have recorded more than 4 cms of rains till last night.
In a good news the rains could ease over the Delta districts from today. The current spell of rains happening at the time of this post may continue over the next couple of hours or so. Post which the rains will gradually ease during the day with sunny weather likely during late afternoon. This will bring some cheer to those who are part of the massive relief efforts happening on a war footing in the region
Some of the convection currently seen in and around Delta districts will eventually move towards South Tamil Nadu over the next few hours. This is likely to bring isolated heavy rains in the region particularly around Thoothukudi, Ramanathapuram, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts. Also places along the Western ghats will see another day of rainfall activity with moderate to heavy spells likely to be seen in both TN and Kerala.
Starting from today we are seeing the effect of dry Northerlies descend down the latitudes. North Tamil Nadu is already seeing the effect of this with Chennai seeing lower early morning temperature today compared to yesterday.
Chennai will see dry weather prevail though isolated short spell of rains would not be a surprise.
