For the fourth straight day many parts of Tamil Nadu has got rains with the interiors once again enjoying the best spells while coastal areas had passing showers or light rains at most places. Parts of Vellore, Trichy, Virudhunagar, Erode, Madurai & Tiruppur districts recorded moderate to heavy rains in many places. Madurai & Virudhunagar which were left dry for most of June & first fortnight of July has enjoyed two straight days of fairly widespread rains which was much needed for the region.
In a change of fortunes for the coastal region things are looking brighter for North Coastal Tamil Nadu starting today as the wind patterns become better. While West coast is likely to get moderate rains at many places thanks to the weak offshore trough that continues to persist along the coast a few places in Rayalaseema & adjoining South Interior Karnataka is likely to get moderate to heavy rains once again in what is likely to be a fifth straight day of intense thunderstorms in the region.
Models are indicating possibly another fairly wide spread rainfall day for Tamil Nadu though the intensity could be slightly lesser than the last few days. Nevertheless thanks to the favorable wind directions developing coastal areas of Tamil Nadu is likely to see better rainfall prospects with North Coastal Tamil Nadu particularly between Pondicherry & Pulicat likely to see moderate thunderstorms late in the evening / night.
It would not be a surprise if one or two places record heavy spells as well during this period. The slightly clearer skies is expected to aid the convection better while instability conditions are likely to be extremely conducive along the North Coastal TN area which could make for intense thunderstorms in one or two places where factors dove tail nicely.
