Most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu recorded overnight rains last night with Cuddalore, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagappattinam districts recording heavy rains at a few places. Neyveli in Cuddalore district, Kollidam in Nagappattinam district & Aduthurai in Thanjavur district recorded more than 5 cms rain as of 5:30 AM today morning with more rains on the store for the next few hours. Almost 10 districts across the state have recorded at least 5 mm till 5:30 AM among IMD AWS Network.
While the stretch between Cuddalore & Nagappattinam got the best spells places in and around Chennai also got light rains across the city around midnight. KVK Kaattupaakkam, near Kattangulathur, slightly south of Chennai got the highest rains among the IMD stations around Chennai recording 6 mm till 5:30 AM in the morning.
Rains are likely to continue today as well with once again the stretch between Pondicherry and Nagappattinam best placed for rains. One or two places in this belt could once again get heavy rains over the course of the next 12 hours or so which could possibly impact standing crops if any that is ready for harvest in the delta region. Rains are likely to slow down from early tomorrow morning with possibly easing from Sunday onwards.
A few places in interior Tamil Nadu is also likely to get some rains as well as remnant moisture clouds travel across the state. Places at the foothills of Western Ghats could get moderate spells at times during the day. Chennai could see cloudy skies with some early morning light rains at places with possibly another late evening spell of light rains once again.
