Overnight Isolated Rains in Tamil Nadu set to continue today as well

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Yesterday saw the return of rains in Tamil Nadu with a few places in Delta and interior districts getting moderate rains.  Since the last Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation around the first week of June just before the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala Rains in Tamil Nadu had slowed down with only extreme South Tamil Nadu & places adjoining the Western Ghats getting rains on a regular basis.  Last night though saw both Western Tamil Nadu & Delta region getting good rains in a few places.  Kangeyam in Tiruppur district got almost 8 cms rains till 5:30 in the morning.   Except for the small region around Chennai and adjoining coastal places most coastal areas from Delta districts till South AP got isolated rains yesterday.

Weather_Update2

On a slightly more  macro level we have seen the Southwest Monsoon make some more progress into East & Central India yesterday.  Under improving conditions we will see the Monsoon make some progress on the West Coast as well with more parts of Maharashtra expected to be covered by today / tomorrow along with parts of Madhya Pradesh as well while Chhatisgarh could be fully under Monsoon conditions.

Weather_Update

The Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation that straddled the East Coast has moved in a more W/NW direction and now lies further inland over South Coastal Odisha and neighborhood.  Under the influence of this UAC many places in Andhra Pradesh & Telengana has got rains yesterday.  Today we are likely to see the rain bands shift slightly to the west with many places in Vidharba & Maharashtra likely to get rains under the influence of this UAC. Thanks to the UAC that is slowly in the process of getting into the Monsoon trough we are likely to see increased rainfall over West Coast as well.  A few places in Karnataka is likely to see heavy rains under the weak off shore trough & aided by the UAC.

Weather_Update1

There exists a fair chance of rains in Tamil Nadu today as well.  The North Coastal Tamil Nadu region from delta till South AP has the best chance with one or two places likely to get moderate rains around the region.  Chennai is likely to see cloudy skies most of the time with a decent chance of rains during the afternoon / evening.
