Last Night saw fairly widespread rains in Chennai with few ares getting moderate to heavy spells of rains during the early hours. As mentioned in our post yesterday it was one active day of Veppa Salanam thunderstorms in Tamil Nadu with bulk of the rains happening in Cuddalore / Villupuram districts. While the IMD observatory at Cuddalore has recorded nearly 8 cms till 5:30 in the morning not far away the taluk headquarters RG at Villupuram has recorded 85 mm rains till morning.
The rains in Chennai picked up late in the night though thunderstorms intensified just off the coast. When it was looking like it was end of the spell of rains in Chennai, fresh convection after midnight provided for some light to moderate rains across the city which is continuing as we type the post. The early part of the day is likely to see on and off spells of rains in Chennai to continue.
The mid level tropspheric instability continues to persist today also though the cloudy skies during the day time could mean we might miss out on heavy thunderstorms aided by convective process. Nevertheless interior areas are likely to see thunderstorms develop later in the evening which will make its journey towards the coastal areas giving moderate rains to few places between Delta & Chennai.
Enjoy the Chennaiyil Oru Kodaikanal day and the Saaral Mazhai along with it.
