Northeast Monsoon to pick up pace in South TN

After lashing North Tamil Nadu for the last few days thanks to a very active Northeast Monsoon South AP particularly Chittoor and Nellore districts came under the attack of heavy rains yesterday and day before.  With Nellore district in particular seeing very heavy rains at many places under the influence of the Well Marked Low which has now become an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation.

Northeast Monsoon Update: Under the influence of an evolving Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation off the coast of Kerala Northeast Monsoon is expected to pick up over South TN and Kerala.  One or two places in the districts of Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar & Madurai could see spells of heavy rains.   Similarly parts of Western Tamil Nadu as well could see some much needed rains.  The areas around Valparai could see one or two places getting heavy rains along with areas to the South of Coimbatore.  Interior places like Erode and Namakkal could see isolated spells of rains today.

The North TN districts of Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri could see one or two places getting rains today along with the adjoining region of Rayalaseema and South Karnataka around Bangalore / Mysore.  Under the influence of this UAC many parts of Kerala could see spells of rain today particularly around Thrissur, Kozhikode and Palakkad districts.

With the winds now turning back to Easterlies Coastal TN could start to see rains return as well with the stretch between Pondicherry to Rameswaram expected to see spells of rains today.  One or two places in this stretch could see heavy spells or two. These rains could be marked in and around Nagapattinam and the delta region.

Chennai Weather Update: Parts of Chennai could see early morning rains in a few areas which could get cleared as day progresses.  Partly cloudy skies with day time temperature around 30°C expected.  Later in the night few isolated spells of rains likely in a few areas.
