Like the day before yesterday also saw many parts of Chennai receive spells of rains with Meenambakkam airport receiving 23 mm rains 2:30 in the morning. Parts of Kanyakumari district received heavy rains with the Agricultural University AWS in Killiyoor recording 107 mm till 5:00 AM today.
Northeast Monsoon is expected to be active over South TN as today as well parts of Kanyakumari & Tirunelveli district could receive heavy rains. There is a possibility of an Upper Air Circulation developing off the North AP coast under the influence of the Upper Air Trough Easterlies trough extending all along the East coast.
This could potentially bring the possibility of one or two places in Coastal TN get heavy rains though overall the pattern of on and off rains could continue over most parts of Coastal TN as the wind directions are not perfect Easterlies, expected under a normal Northeast Monsoon day, for the moisture to be pushed inland. Due to the unfavorable wind environment it could be a case of “So Near Yet So Far” for most parts of the coastal zone though.
Today could also see parts of Western TN near Coimbatore & Erode get some spells of heavy rains while places near Trichy Perambalur & Thanjavur could see isolated spells of heavy rains. Towards afternoon a few places in Tiruvannamalai & Vellore region could get isolated spells of heavy rains
Chennai Weather Update: Chennai could see partly cloudy skies with isolated passing showers in a few areas around day break. As the day progresses there is a strong possibility of rains towards the late afternoon with one or two areas in the Western Suburbs around Poonamallee / Avadi getting a spell or two of very heavy rains. Day time temperature could peak around 31°C.
