Northeast Monsoon continues to be vigorous over the interior regions of Tamil Nadu as Chetpet in Tiruvannamalai district received about 68 mm rains till 1:00 AM. Similarly high rainfall figures were reported from Poonamallee, Manikandam near Trichy & Vattalagundu near Dindigul. Some parts of Chennai received isolated spells of rains yesterday with the COMK station recording 2.3 mm rains
Northeast Monsoon Update: A low pressure has formed in Arabian Sea off Karnataka coast and is expected to become Well Marked in the next 24 hours. Under the influence of this low pressure many places in Karnataka are expected to receive fairly heavy spells of rains along the West Coast. Similarly an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation exists off the Andhra Coast. Thanks to these two systems a lot of moisture is being circulated around in Southern Peninsular Region bringing in heavy rainfall probabilities to the interior places.
In what could possibly turn out to be the best day of rainfall in the Northeast Monsoon season so far most parts of Tamil Nadu are expected to see fairly widespread rains once again today. In South Tamil Nadu the districts of Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli & Kanyakumari could receive rains at many places with one or two places getting heavy rains. The districts of Erode, Tiruppur, Karur & Namakkal could see fairly widespread rains in Western TN. In North Tamil Nadu the districts of Tiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore and adjoining Pondicherry could see rains at many places with one or two places in Tiruvannamalai district getting heavy rains. In a welcome development North Coastal TN could get back to rainy days with some parts of the region getting a spell or two of rains with isolated heavy spell of rains in the region.
Chennai Weather Update: Partly cloudy skies with some possibility of spells of rain in a few areas during the afternoon. Day time temperature could be around 32°C. Towards late in the night on Wednesday / Thursday early morning could see rains at many parts of the city.
