The Deep Depression in South West Bay Of Bengal made landfall near Pondicherry last evening at about 19:30 IST. In what was a landmark spell of rains in Cuddalore district Neyveli received 483 mm rains till 4:30 AM of which almost 450 mm was recorded in a span of 6 hours.  Nearby Chidambaram recorded 244 mm of rains

Northeast Monsoon Update : With the deep depression making landfall the rain bands have shifted to the interior places with most of Western Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka enjoying fairly heavy spells of rains since last night.  The trend is expected to continue today as well with fairly wide spread rains over the districts of Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and adjoining areas of South Karnataka and South AP in the early part of the day.  Later part of the day the rains would shift to Nilgiris and Malabar region of Kerala along with the extreme South Karnataka around the Mysore region.

South Coastal AP could see some rains today as the rain bands circulate around the Southern Peninsular region bringing in good rains across many places in the region.  In a measure of balance North Coastal TN which received extremely heavy rains over the last couple of days could see reduced rainfall activity to allow place & people to recover from one of the heaviest rainfall spells in recent times.  This is on account of the core circulation being placed around North Coastal TN thereby having reduced rain bands.

Chennai Weather Update: Cloudy skies with spells of on and off rains.  Skies to be clear most of the times to allow Diwali to be celebrated with the usual fanfare.  Day time temperature to stay below 30°C for most of the time.  All in all a picture perfect Northeast Monsoon Diwali day.
