No Respite in sight from Chennai Weather

Reading Time: 2 minutes

For 5 straight days Chennai has seen day time temperatures in excess of 40ºC pretty much unheard of during the month of July in the history of Chennai.  City Observatory recorded 40.7ºC yesterday as well, the third time it has crossed 40.5ºC in the last 3 days.

As things stand it appears Chennai may not have any respite for the next couple of days.  North Coastal Tamil Nadu is expected to be under a spell of moderate heat wave today as well.  Possibly towards the weekend we could see some respite from the heat wave conditions.

In other news Southwest Monsoon continues to stall and stutter with now officially in the below average zone for the last couple of days (first time since Monsoon Onset). An Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation over East India which could potentially develop into a low within the next 12 to 24 hours could trigger heavy rains over many places in East India and along the Monsoon trough, as it moves WNW direction the low would bring back rains to many parts of Central India as well.  Whether would this be enough to revive #Monsoon2015 we need to wait and watch.

Chennai Weather Update Another hot day on the cards with temperature possibly crossing 40ºC today as well.  A strong and firm Sea Breeze is expected to form around 2 PM which could bring down the temperature to around 34ºC  by around 4 Pm. Towards the evening there is a possibility of thunderstorms developing over North Tamil Nadu this could give some much needed showers to a few areas of Chennai as well.   These showers could possibly benefit the Southern Suburbs and south of Chennai areas more.
