New Year ushers Cold Nights to Interior TN

COMK wishes all its well wishers a Happy & Prosperous New Year. As 2019 dawns may the sun shine bright during summers to bring the monsoon right on cue and enough rains all around at the right time.

In our post yesterday we had mentioned about how winter conditions are likely to set in over many parts of Tamil Nadu. Today morning both the observatories of Chennai recorded the first sub 20°C in more than 10 months. Chennai AP records just around Christmas the first round of sub 20°C as the effect of Northeast Monsoon wanes away over North TN. Tirupati recorded 16.3°C at 5:30 AM today more than 5 degrees lesser than y yesterday.

Northeast Monsoon 2018 season officially ended a look at the overall rainfall statistics for the year indicate though about 12 stations recorded normal rainfall for this year according to IMD classification only 4 stationsm Pamban, Thoothukudi, Karur Paramathi & Coonoor, recorded above normal rains while three stations, Kanyakumari, Coimbatore AP & Udhagamandalam, recorded excess rains. Tirupathur of Vellore district is the worst among all IMD stations recording a deficit of 57%. While Chennai AP is relatively better off the IMD observatory at Nungambakkam ended 2018 with a deficit of 41%. Here is hoping 2019 is luckier for Chennai

Over the next few days across Tamil Nadu night time minimum temperatures are likley to stay a couple of notches below normal levels. In particular the interior parts of the state along with adjoining areas of South Interior Karnataka & Rayalaseema region is likely to see minimum temperatures stay about 3 / 4°C below normal with many places in the districts of Vellore, Krishnagiri & Dharmapuri in line for night time temperatures to drop around 15°C. Chennai will continue to see pleasant nights with temperatures staying around 20°C
