Near Normal Day Time Conditions expected over Tamil Nadu

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday parts of Interior Tamil Nadu particularly around Tiruchirappallil, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai districts recorded good thunderstorms under the influence of remnant moisture moving across Peninsular India from the West Coast triggered by the monsoon current over Kerala.  Yesterday on the temperature front many areas including Chennai recorded the coolest day in more than 3 weeks.  Similar pattern was seen in places like Cuddalore & Pondicherry as well.

Trichy and Villupuram district benefitted most from the late evening thunderstorms.  While the airport observatory in Trichy recorded about 5 mm Manachanallur a place about 15 kms from the city on the Northern Banks of River Kollidam recorded nearly 8 cms rains of which possibly 6 cms fell in one hour.  Similarly places around Kallakurichi in Villupuram district recorded good rains.

On the temperature front near normal day time conditions are expected to prevail over most parts of the temperature with most places recording close to the long term average in terms of maximum temperatures.  A few places in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu could possibly see marginally above average temperatures.  Most places in the state could see temperatures stay lower than 40°C while places like Vellore, Tiruttani, Madurai & possibly Trichy could inch above 40°C.

West Coast is likely to see another active day in terms of rains up to possibly Mangalore latitude thanks to the monsoon conditions persisting.  We might have to wait for a couple of days before the monsoon climbs latitude which will possibly increase the rainfall prospects of Chennai.  Interior Tamil Nadu could see another day of rains around Central Tamil Nadu and parts of North Interior Tamil Nadu as well.
