Isolated Rains in Interior Tamil Nadu to continue

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday saw rains in Interior Tamil Nadu occur in places close to the Western Ghats.  Most of the state saw bright sunshine right through the day with temperatures creeping up back to above 36 degrees in places like Madurai, Trichy, Salem, Dharmapuri & Coimbatore.  Later in the evening under the effect of the wind instability and differential heating of air mass some of the interior places came under the influence of thunderstorms.

Parts of Krishangiri, Erode, Theni & Virudhunagar districts saw moderate rains while places in Salem, Dindigul also saw some rains.  Interestingly Anamalai and Dharapuram in the old composite Coimbatore district also saw some moderate rains in the evening while some parts of the district recorded light rains.

Similar trend is seen today as well with the expected rains as interior places and areas along the Western Ghats seeing isolated rains.  A few places along the Western Ghats could see heavy spells of rains at times.

With mostly clear skies during the early part of the day most parts of Tamil Nadu will possibly see a very warm day before the evening thunderstorms happen over the interior places.  With influence of MJO fading away from the Bay of Bengal area the intensity of the rains will start to slow down depending more on atmospheric and wind instabilities.

Coastal Areas are unlikely to get any benefit from these thunderstorms with mostly dry weather expected to prevail in places like Chennai.  Another hot day is on the cards for Chennai with warmer than normal minimum as well.  The humdity could be high as well  making it an uncomfortable day overall.
