After a few days Chennai and most of Tamil Nadu wakes up to relatively dry conditions as school children enjoy a Bonus holiday that was declared last evening. As the famous song in the movie Guna went said அது என்னவோ தெரியல என்ன மாயமோ தெரியல most often the rains in Chennai stop as though powered by an invisible switch the moment school holidays are declared.

Nevertheless it was a good few days of rains for Chennai & Suburbs which allowed many places to recover from a long barren spell in November. Looking at the IMD weather stations & observatories rainfall numbers for the past week or so southern parts of the city & southern suburbs seem to have scored well while the North & Northwestern parts of the city seem to have performed sub par. Chennai Meenambakkam is just short off reaching its annual number while Nungambakkam still has a long way to go which only Nature can answer in the rest of the days of NEM season.

Models indicate coastal TN will continue to record moderate rains at many places with the stretch between Pondy & Delta likely to see isolated heavy spells of rains due to moisture drag created by the LPA over Laccadive Sea / Southeast Arabian Sea. Similarly due to trapped moisture isolated places in the Western Ghats around Nilgiris / Coimbatore / Dindigul may see heavy rains. Overall compared to the past few days rains could slow down from today while we wait for the next set of events to unfold in the days to come.

Chennai & suburbs could see mostly clear weather during the day time that will help in drying up some of the water logged areas around southern suburbs. Later in the evening / night few spells of rains may happen which could be light to moderate with one or two places getting short heavy spells at times
