The evening thunderstorms continue to provide some respite to parts of Tamil Nadu with isolated rains seen in many places along the coast yesterday as well while one or two places in the interiors got some rains. While Chennai saw rains in many places on Thursday yesterday saw sharp showers in a few places with the IMD observatory in Nungambakkam recording about 2 mm rains from the late afternoon spells. Ramanathapuram district in South Tamil Nadu possibly saw the best spells of the day with Mudukulathur recording about 20 mm rains.
While the monsoon continues to be weak over the West Coast and the convective thunderstorms in the East Coast continues the action shifts to East India & Gangetic Plans where monsoons is likely to be active under the influence of the Low Pressure that is seen over parts of Uttar Pradesh. Parts of Bihar along with East UP, Jharkhand, West Bengal and the Terai region of Nepal is likely to see good spells of rains during the weekend.
While convective thunderstorms is likely to continue in South India, the overall rainfall pattern will be slightly subdued in the region for the next 2 / 3 days. Coastal Tamil Nadu is likely to see isolated rains today as well with once again the stretch between Delta & Rameswaram in line for some late afternoon spells of convective thunderstorms. Models indicate the interior areas to the west of Chennai is likely to see few isolated thunderstorms develop depending on the movement few areas in North Coastal Tamil Nadu could see spells of light / moderate rains later in the night.
