The hot conditions prevailing over Tamil Nadu continues to persist with Vellore and Karur recording above 40°C with Karur topping at 41.2°C. The saving grace for some pockets of Tamil Nadu and a few places of South Interior Karnataka was the late evening thunderstorms bringing in relief from the heat. Rasipuram near Salem recorded 8 mm rains yesterday while in neighboring Karnataka places like Hunsur, Kanakapura and many parts of Bangalore recorded decent evening rains.
It is likely to be another scorching day in the interiors with temperatures staying around 39 / 40°C in many places with once again places like Vellore, Karur & possibly Trichy and Madurai as well could join in the 40°C club thanks to the relentless afternoon heat. Numerical models indicate suburbs of Chennai also could see an increase in temperature with the Southern and Western suburbs possibly seeing a 37°C degree day while the city could see day time max temperature around 35°C
As has been the case for the last couple of days thanks to the wind instability prevailing on account of the North – South trough existing at 0.9 kms ASL places along Western Ghats in TN and Kerala along with few places in South Interior Karnataka could see rains once again today. Places in West Interior Tamil Nadu along the Karnataka border near Kollegal / MM Hills like Andhiyur could see some spells of spill over rains from this instability.
