After a spell of fairly cool / cold weather across Tamil Nadu a spell of warmer than normal nights are ahead of us. While the wait for a meaningful spell of rains for the state continues for the 3rd week after a poor Northeast Monsoon the dry atmospheric conditions were holding a vice like grip since the turn of the new year.
Despite a Low Pressure area persisting off Sri Lanka along the Equatorial Waters so far it’s influence on weather over TN has been negligible. But it is expected to strengthen the Easterlies though over the next couple of days putting an end to the Dry Northerlies / Northeasterlies which were responsible for the cold spell over the past many days.
Also the increased cloudiness associated with the returning Easterlies will trap the surface heat increasing the night time minimum temperatures. Models indicate night time minimum temperatures are likely to increase from tonight and is expected to continue until middle of next week.
The strengthening Easterlies at best could only give some isolated spell of light rains / passing showers to a few places towards the weekend / early next week. It remains to be seen if the situation would change for the better in the coming days.
