After the heat wave conditions of last week, over the last couple of days temperatures have eased at many places over Tamil Nadu though a few places like Karur / Salem / Madurai / Tiruchirappalli continue to hover around the 100 F mark. The strengthening of the Easterlies has meant coastal areas like Chennai has seen the day time maximum temperatures reduce by a degree or so.
Though temperatures have reduced over Coastal Tamil Nadu the Easterlies have increased the humidity due to which the actual feel has been uncomfortable particularly during the afternoon. This has also resulted in warmer nights as land breeze during nights make it a more pleasant night.
On the broader scale Southern Hemisphere continues to remain active with two clear disturbances persisting over Southern Indian Ocean, a strong tropical cyclone off Madagascar and one evolving disturbance in Maritime Continent, indicating the favorable conditions that exist south of Equator. Tropical Cyclone IDAI is the 6th Major Hurricane strength Cyclone in Southern Indian Ocean for the current season. This is further indication of how Southern Hemisphere has remained extremely active this year playing a role in the reduced rainfall prospects over South India so far.
