Northeast Monsoon has been vigorous over many parts of Tamil Nadu as parts of Chennai recorded very heavy spell of rains around midnight hours. While IMD observatory at Meenambakkam recorded only 12 mm the observatory at Nungambakkam recorded 101 mm until 5:30 AM today morning.

With a Low Pressure Area having developed in the Arabian Sea area we can now see Easterlies getting streamlined over Peninsular India. This could benefit coastal areas in the form of moisture incursion across Peninsular India. As moisture migrates across South India some parts of Western Ghats will witness heavy spells of rains through trapped moisture, particularly some of the East Facing valleys.

Yesterday wind convergence created an opportunity for heavy spell over parts of Chennai, similar convergence is seen today over Delta districts which could result in isolated heavy rains over the stretch between Ramanathapuram & Chidambaram. Some of the interior places to the Northwest of Delta could benefit from this convergence of winds.
