While Summer heat has been relentless in its grip over Tamil Nadu particularly in the North Tamil Nadu areas, the solace has been the evening thunderstorms that have been giving some good rains to the interior places. In particular the places to the West & Southwest of Chennai around Vellore, Tiruvannamalai & Krishnagiri districts seem to enjoy the best of the spells and yesterday was no different as well. Yercaud recorded a whopping 93 mm in all last night of which 51 mm possibly fell in one hour. Similarly Madurai, Nilgiris, Dindigul along with parts of Coimbatore / Tiruppur also recorded good rains.
On the heat front while there is no across the board respite yet for Tamil Nadu the city areas of Chennai though got some relief with the 40°C streak ending yesterday with early sea breeze keeping the temperature under check. Meenambakkam along with rest of Southern & Western Suburbs though did not see any respite as it was 6th straight day of 40°C.
Things look all set for another day of heat over Tamil Nadu with once again North Tamil Nadu being the hottest area in the state with possibly Tiruttani all set for 4th straight day of 44°C temperatures while places closer to the coast could benefit from sea breeze. Chennai could possibly see the day high stay around 40 /41 °C while Meenambakkam and rest of the suburbs will possibly a degree or so hotter due to the late advent of sea breeze.
We are likely to see another day of thunderstorms over the interiors with two particular hotspots over Tamil Nadu, along the Western Ghats and parts of Tiruvannamalai, Cuddalore & Vilupuram districts. One or two places in Trichy and adjoining delta districts could also see isolated spells of moderate to heavy rains.
