Temporary dip in temperatures seen for 2 days over Tamil Nadu

Weather Update
Reading Time: 2 minutes

Yesterday saw marginal reduction in temperatures across Tamil Nadu with only Karur Paramathi, Tiruchirappalli AP & Tiruttani crossing the 40°C mark. Crucially for the first time in the last few days no place in the state recorded 41°C with Karur Paramathi the hottest at 40.6°C.

Numerical Models indicate for today and tomorrow there could be some more reduction in temperatures. Most of North Tamil Nadu will possibly see temperatures around 37 / 38°C which will be near normal or in some cases like Vellore dt marginally below normal. Isolated pockets around Tiruttani could possibly inch closer to 40°C while coastal areas like Chennai will possibly benefit from strengthening Easterlies which is expected to bring early relief from climbing temperatures for the coastal places.

Central Tamil Nadu will continue to remain hot along with parts of West Interior Tamil Nadu and isolated pockets in Virudhunagar district of South TN where the temperatures could marginally cross 40°C. But overall numerical models indicate some easing of temperatures today and possibly a better day tomorrow before the heat picks up once again from Sunday onwards. Yesterday saw good thunderstorm activity over Nilgiris & Coimbatore district late in the evening. Many areas of Coimbatore city along with places near Udumalaipettai & Pollachi recorded good rains bringing relief and joy to people in the region.

Today with the temporary strengthening of Easterlies as indicated by models we could see the thunderstorm activity more prevalent to the West of Western Ghats with places in South Kerala enjoying better prospects of thunderstorms. There could be some spillover storms on the Eastern side of the ghats in the districts of Virudhunagar & Tirunelveli though we need to see how much would materialize in reality.
