Last night saw delta districts get some moderate rains, Nagappattinam recorded 27 mm till 5:30 AM, while Karaikal recorded 33 mm during the same period. A majority of the rainfall though has fallen over Sri Lanka with the Trough at Mean Sea Level persisting over Southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining the areas of Sri Lanka.
Thanks to the trough moving more Westerly than W/NW the rains have been restricted to south of Pondicherry areas with North TN pretty much loosing out on the rains. The trough is now too South to influence any major rains over North TN and we are likely to see the typical Northeast Humid morning with breeze from the east dominating, and partly cloudy skies keeping the temperature under check but making it more humid during the nights.
South TN could see spells of isolated rains today with one or two places along the Western Ghats in the Tirunelveli & Kanyakumari district recording moderate to heavy spells of rains under the orographic effect of the Easterly winds getting blocked by the climbing Western Ghats.
With just 4 days left we for the statistical year to end not much improvement is likely to be seen in the overall numbers. The hope now lies in possibly stray disturbances which could happen during the off season winter months of January to March before the harsh summer awaits us.
