The trend of rains over Coastal Tamil Nadu continued last night as well with many places in Kanchipuram, Tiruvannamalai & Villupuram districts along with the UT of Pondicherry. Chithamur to the Southwest of Chengalpattu recorded about 4 cms as most of the rain bands last night stayed between Chengalpattu & Pondicherry region. Similarly parts of Pudukottai & Sivanganga districts as well recorded moderate to heavy rains with Devakottai recording 4 cms rains till 5:30 in the morning.
Today we are likely to see cloudy conditions during the early part of the day over North Tamil Nadu area like yesterday. There is a fair chance of rains to continue over Coastal Tamil Nadu once again today as well. Today we could see the thunderstorms develop from around the West Interior TN / South Interior Karnataka region and move towards the Delta region of Coastal Tamil Nadu. The stretch between Pondicherry & Nagappattinam region stands the best chance of some of the heaviest spells of the day.
As has been the case for the last couple of days we could possibly expect the thunderstorms to pick up intensity later in the evening / night as they come closer to the coast. Atmospheric conditions in terms of Convective Potential is fairly high once again along the coast which could aid the development of these storms.
As things stand Cloudy conditions could dominate Chennai weather today with some isolated thunderstorms possibility later in the evening / night. But like the last couple of days the best chances for thunderstorms are to our South.
