Yesterday afternoon saw isolated places in Chennai get rains in the afternoon with Kolapakkam roughly 3 kms to the west of Chennai Airport got 24 mm rains with areas like Anna Nagar, Madhavaram and parts of West Tambaram also getting rains.
Southwest Monsoon Update: With no change in conditions most of the country is dry and the official Southwest Monsoon could end with possibly the lowest daily rainfall of the season. Except for one or two places in Northeast most parts excluding Southern Peninsula would be dry. The evolving low over Bay of Bengal expected to form near Andaman Islands could hold the key to possible revival of rains over Central India though as things stand only a weak system could be expected out of this Low with no major intensification expected by the models.
Parts of South India would continue to get rains today as well though with the Wind Discontinuity not existing any more the rains would be more a factor of moisture accumulation. The next couple of days are an indication of the ensuing Northeast Monsoon season as whole of South India would be under the influence of Easterly Influence. Parts of North Kerala & adjoining South Karnataka region of Coorg could be under heavy spells of rains today. This would bode well for some inflows into Mettur through Kabini.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update: In an indication of coming Northeast Monsoon expect whole of TN to be a few degrees lower than the temperature during most of September. Plains should see a maximum day time temperature around 33°C The windward side of Western Ghats region could be under the influence of spells of heavy rains. Areas around Coimbatore, Dindigul, Madurai and delta districts of Trichy & Thanjavur could have another rainy day today.
Chennai Weather Update: As an indication of what is in store for us over the next 3 / 4 months the next couple of days would be curtain raiser to Northeast Monsoon. Perfect Northeast Monsoon day on the cards except for the rains. Nice pleasant day with easterly winds blowing expect the day time temperature around 33°C. Do not be surprised if you get occasional passing showers.
