Chennai Weather – Late Night rains pound City

In what was possibly the heaviest and the most widespread rains for the season, Chennai and surrounding areas received heavy late night rains.  Areas near the Airport received the heaviest rains with Kolapakkam just off the Airport runway recording 68 mm.  The City’s IMD AWS recorded 31 mm in Nungambakkam

Southwest Monsoon Update: The Well Marked Low over Central India intensified once again to a Depression and is now stationary over Central India providing heavy rains to Madhya Pradesh & Vidharbha regions.  The depression is expected to move in a Westward direction providing  more rains to Marathwada, Konkan & Gujarat regions.Peninsular West Coast is benefiting from the moisture incursion provided by the depression with heavy rainfall for South Karnataka.  The rains are expected to continue today as well with North Kerala to getting some rains.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: North Tamil Nadu would start with a pleasant cloudy day with the day warming up slowly.  Day time temperatures are expected to be around 35°C for most places of North TN.  South TN will face partly cloudy skies with temperatures around 37°C in the interiors.  Towards the evening isolated thunderstorms are expected to form over North Coastal TN & adjoining South AP coast, the rain bands are expected to be slightly North of Yesterday.

Chennai Weather Update:  Extremely pleasant morning, with temperatures around 35°C during the day.  Chances of spells of rains during late evening as the thunderstorms from the west move to the coast.
