Last night saw heavy rains lash many places in South Chennai with Anna University, Taramani, Adyar enjoying rains in excess of 30 mm, while Nungambakkam received only about 8 mm. Many areas in North Tamil Nadu also received these heavy rains.
Southwest Monsoon Update Cyclone Komen, now a depression is over land and slowly moving towards the monsoon trough and is expected to weaken gradually. While it moves along the trough in a W/NW direction it is expected to bring in heavy rains over Jharkhand, Gangetic Plains. The Off shore trough is pulling in cross equatorial moisture and is expected to bring in much needed rains over the West Coast. Konkan & Karnataka coast will start August on a good note while though still weak Kerala also will start to get rains after a very long break. South Interior Karnataka is expected to benefit from an instability created by confluence of upper level winds like yesterday. The rains today would be slightly south of the peak rain region yesterday.
Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Warm day expected with evening thunderstorms over many places of North & Western Tamil Nadu thanks to the upper level wind instability created by two different wind masses. The rain zone could be slightly south of the rain zone last night. Similar to yesterday the rains will peak overnight and one or two places could get very heavy rains with squally weather
