Chennai Weather – Heavy Overnight rains lash City

Heavy overnight rains lashed most parts of Chennai.  The IMD weather station in Nungambakkam recorded 23 mm with most of the rain happening between 11:30 PM & 12:30 AM.

Southwest Monsoon Update: Under the influence of both the LPAs’ Southwest Monsoon is expected to be active over most parts of the core Monsoon Region.   Parts of Gujarat will continue to get good rains while places in Rajasthan where Monsoon had withdrawn could see spells of rains as well as the Low moves up the latitude bringing rains to more parts of North India.

The low over East India will continue to bring rains to almost all places over East & Northeast India.  Rains are expected to push into Bihar & Jharkhand today as the low moves inland and makes its journey in a NW direction.

Southern Peninsula could see a fairly dry day as combination of being influenced by mid level ridges and the climbing up of latitudes by the LPA over Bay.  West coast will continue to get some spells of rains under the influence of low level westerlies.

Tamil Nadu Weather Update: Most parts of North TN, Delta region enjoyed a good day’s rains yesterday with Adiramapattinam recording 60 mm, Chidambaram getting 21 mm.  Today is expected to be a fairly dry day with most parts of TN expecting to see higher than normal temperature. Extremely isolated thunderstorms may happen later in the night over one or two places in North TN.

Chennai Weather Update: Chennai to see partly cloudy skies in the morning with pleasant conditions till about 10 AM.  Day time temperature is expected to be around 35°-36°C towards the afternoon.  Chances of rains are very less though one or two areas could receive passing showers late night.
