Chennai Rains Update – Isolated Rains likely on 18th Nov.

Reading Time: 2 minutes

In a much needed development North Coastal TN including Chennai saw fairly clear skies for whole of today allowing relief work to be undertaken with wartime efforts all across the city.  Today’s fairly clear skies could also go a long way in reducing the inflows into the city’s reservoirs helping to bring down the discharges into the overloaded rivers passing through Chennai.

The low pressure now lying off the coast of Andhra Pradesh is expected to weaken and move in a W/SW direction towards Peninsular India.  Under the influence of this weak system moving inland parts of peninsular India will get spells of rains with one or two places expected to get heavy spells of rains around Coimbatore / Tiruppur district which could possibly under the influence of convergence of winds.  These rains could also happen over parts of South Karnataka & Rayalseema region as well.

With the Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation moving inland the trades winds over Chennai could move back to Easterlies which could slowly bring back the trade winds induced rains over North Coastal Tamil Nadu. The shift back to Easterlies could also bring some rainfall possibilities to South TN & Delta region.  Delta region could possibly see good spells of rains start may be a day later on Thursday.
