As Tamil Nadu celebrates Diwali we have another reason to rejoice, the first spell of Northeast Monsoon rains are not very far away for Coastal Tamil Nadu. Cyclone Kyant that has weakened considerably over the last 48 hours or so is now parked as a Low Pressure Area off the coast of Chennai to our Northeast. With parts of Coastal AP, around Nellore getting good early morning rains, the rain bands are expected to move further south as we get to the later part of the day.
The Low Pressure parked at a very favorable spot for Moisture circulation is expected to push in moisture over most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu between Chennai & Nagappattinam. The rains could start later in the day around evening and possibly continue with intermittent spells through the night.
As we explained in our post yesterday Delta districts are likely to be the biggest beneficiaries today getting some much needed rains late evening and in the night. The rains could push further south as the remnants of the Low Pressure moves across the interior parts of Peninsular India.
Chennai could see spells of rains around evening with moderate spells at times. Happy Diwali from all of us at COMK family.
