Another Muted Day likely on Temperature front for Chennai

Reading Time: 3 minutes

As temperatures started to ease over Tamil Nadu yesterday saw a very good day of summer thunderstorms over interior Tamil Nadu with many places in Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Salem, Krishnagiri, Erode, Dharmapuri & Coimbatore districts enjoying good rains.  Along with Interior Tamil Nadu adjoining parts of Andhra & Karnataka also saw summer thunderstorms lash the region.  Coimbatore Airport recorded 15 mm rains while the IMD observatory in Bengaluru which was missing out on rains for so many days now scored 29 mm until midnight.

While Chennai could feel aggrieved it is missing out on all the rains which is happening in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu we could certainly take solace on seeing the back of the heat wave that was holding us to ransom for the better part of last week.  Yesterday saw the coolest day in a week for both observatories as Chennai Nungambakkam dipped into low 36 while Meenambakkam dipped into low 38.  Though the high humidity during the late evening made it an uncomfortable day.

There is more good news on the temperature front as today also temperatures are expected to stay near normal for most parts of the state and in particular North Coastal areas of Tamil Nadu could see temperatures possibly stay lower than normal under the influence of early sea breeze with Chennai possibly seeing another 36 / 37°C day today as well.  While models are estimating humidity to be low be prepared otherwise as like yesterday humidity during evening could be high on account of early sea breeze.

Interiors of Peninsular India could see another day of good rains today as well on account of convective thunderstorms developing along the areas seeing some convergence of winds.  Compared to yesterday the thunderstorms could possibly be little more to the West with South Interior Karnataka districts like Mysore / Hassan / Madikeri possibly enjoying the better spells.

Parts of West Interior Tamil Nadu districts like Coimbatore, Nilgiris,Erode could see another day of thunderstorms if things go right along with North Kerala districts which are likely to see a good day of pre monsoon thunderstorms auguring well for the onset of Southwest Monsoon.
