Active Monsoon Conditions to Prevail over West Coast

Reading Time: 2 minutes

After a lot of false starts Southwest Monsoon finally started to flex its muscles with active monsoon conditions prevailing over most parts of West Coast of India for the last couple of days.  For the 24 hours ending 8:30 AM, 25th June 2017 a lot of places in Maharashtra, South Gujarat, Coastal Karnataka got  very heavy rains with many places seeing rains in excess of 30 cms.  While the city areas of Mumbai did not record much rains heavy rains were reported in the Eastern Suburbs with things looking good for the rains to continue today as well.

Yesterday the rains slowed down considerably over Tamil Nadu on account of the active monsoon conditions prevailing over West Coast.  Parts of Chennai received light rains while some of the Northern suburbs recorded better rains.  The areas around TN / AP Border possibly recorded the best spells as convective thunderstorms that formed over the interiors intensified as they neared the coast.

With Head Bay hosting a Well Marked Low Pressure and the Off shore trough running along the West Coast persisting monsoon is set to be on overdrive for the next few days.  With an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation as well present near South Gujarat the wind pattern is perfectly aligned for a strong monsoon surge to bring much needed spells of rains over these areas.

As far as Tamil Nadu goes we are likely to see isolated heavy rains in the Nilgiris district while Kanyakumari district will continue to see fairly widespread rains with isolated heavy spells as well.  Places along the Western Ghats and isolated places in the West Interior areas of the state could get some spells of rains as well.
