Southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over parts of West Coast as many places have recorded moderate to heavy rains in the West Coast. Thanks to the low pressure that has been moving in a East to West movement across the northern fringes of Deccan plateau the Southwest monsoon has been given a impetus.
This active spell of Monsoon over the West Coast will go a long way in improving the storage levels of the Cauvery Basin which is still in a critical state though we have completed almost 75% of the Monsoon season. Models indicate the current active spell is more likely to be a short intense burst attached to the current Low Pressure and possibly a weak phase is expected to persist in particular along Kerala & Coastal Karnataka which does not augur well. Nevertheless with some hope about possible benefit from MJO during September we can expect some recovery though it could be difficult to compensate the poor show of a peak month like August.
While the East Coast sees a fairly dull day in terms of weather thanks to the active monsoon conditions Mumbai could see another good day of rains similar to yesterday making it a good end to August despite most of the month seeing very little activity. The ghats in Maharashtra could see very heavy rains in one or two places.
In the South isolated heavy rains likely around the Western Ghats of Kerala, Karnataka & Tamil Nadu while Kanyakumari could see some rains though considering how things have been so far it would not make much of a difference .
