May has got to to a sedate start on the temperature front for Tamil Nadu as temperature have eased gradually with yesterday seeing no place in the state going past the 40°C mark, the threshold level to signify hot day, making it a moderately hot day across the state. Even the traditional summer giants like Tiruttani, K.Paramathy, Trichy saw temperatures in the high 39s’ while coastal areas managed to get the advantage of sea breeze around afternoon.
As the temperature charts indicate a lot of places ended up seeing below normal temperatures across the state with Kodaikanal seeing the day pass by without even touching 20°C. Except for Tondi almost all of the other places in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu ended up lower than normal with Adirampatnam marginally above normal.
While the overall trend of moderately hot days are likely to be seen on the starting day of Kathiri 2017 there could be a slight increase in temperatures over the interior places as compared to yesterday while coastal areas will continue to benefit from the presence of mid afternoon sea breeze. The early morning cloudy skies due to the presence of strong Easterlies will minimize the solar radiation keeping the temperature under check across most parts of the state.
On the rainfall front things could be quieter than normal compared to the last few days for the interior places in Tamil Nadu as the bulk of the rains will possibly be on the other side of Western Ghats over Kerala & South Interior Karnataka. Nevertheless a few places adjoining the ghats could see isolated rains while Nilgiris district could see one or two heavy spells at a few places. Like yesterday due to the push of Easterlies isolated places in Delta districts and Pudukottai / Sivaganga district could see some spell of light to moderate rains during the morning.
