Yesterday saw hot conditions persist over most parts of Tamil Nadu with North Interior TN bearing the brunt of the heat. Both Tiruttani & Vellore crossed 44°C the first time two stations in Tamil Nadu have recorded 44°C in the same day for 2017. In the process Vellore recorded 44.1°C the highest recorded temperature in Tamil Nadu for 2017 so far. To put in perspective the hottest recorded day during April for May is 44.4°C recorded on 29th April 2000.
Yesterday Ongole in Andhra Pradesh became the first place in South India to cross 45°C as it recorded 45.5°C in the process setting its hottest day ever during April breaking the record of more than 60 years. For the first time in history Ongole has touched 45 during the month of April. This possibly indicates the how the conditions are indicating possibly an early summer over most parts of the country.
Things are expected to remain similar for today as well with North Interior Tamil Nadu with Tiruvallur & Vellore districts coming under the influence of W/NW winds bringing in the heat from the parched Rayalaseema region whole of afternoon. We are likely to see another 43°C for places like Vellore & Tiruttani along with adjoining places of Andhra like Tirupati etc.
On the rain front places along the Western Ghats are likely to see spells of isolated rains today as well with South TN better placed for the rains as compared to North Interior parts of TN. Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar & Madurai districts are likely beneficiaries of Kodai Mazhai.
