Chennai saw one of its coolest mornings in the last couple of weeks as early morning minimum temperatures dipped to 20.9°C while the COMK Weather Station in Anna Nagar recorded 19.6°C the coldest day for 2017 so far. Similarly the Agri University Weather stations at Poonamallee recorded 18.9°C at 6 AM while the IMD weather stations at Madhavaram and Meenambakkam recorded 17.8 and 20.9 respectively at 5:30 AM.
A combination of High Pressure atmospheric conditions along with near clear skies that ensure no heat radiated during the day gets trapped in the atmosphere has created right conditions for cooler than normal weather for most parts of North Coastal Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
With already conditions perfectly placed for cool mornings add the Westerly Breeze that picks up pace after midnight aids for further dips in temperature particularly in the coastal belt. The next couple of days are likely to see places like Chennai, Pondicherry possibly see night time minimum temperatures dip 2 / 3 degrees below normal due to these factors making it a fairly cold mornings for many places in the region. Interior places like Tirupathur / Vellore / Tiruttani also is likely to be under a cold spell during this time along with the adjoining areas of Rayalaseema & South Interior Karnataka.
