The Easterlies aided by the Trough of Low is likely to bring rains in Tamil Nadu over the next couple of days. Currently lying over Southwest Bay adjoining the region around Sri Lanka it has pretty much confined it to lower latitudes. Being confined to the lower latitudes this is likely to impact on the expected rainfall pattern as well. The rains in Tamil Nadu are expected to stay lower than Pondicherry with South TN benefitting the highest.
The stretch between Nagappattinam and Ramanathapuram could possibly see spells of heavy rains at times over the next two days while interior places are likely to see a spell or two of rains as the trough of low moves to the south of Indian mainland and possibly strengthens as a weak LPA in Arabian Sea as expected by some models.
For the next 24 hours mostly its going to be Coastal Tamil Nadu that could see the spells of rains with the stretch around Ramanathapuram / Rameswaram possibly getting heavy spells at times particularly later in the night / early tomorrow morning.
Chennai is likely to see partly cloudy skies which could keep the temperatures in check though humidity will be on the higher side and the night time minimum temperature is likely to go a couple of notches. Late night / Early morning isolated passing showers can not be ruled out in a few areas though sustained rains are unlikely as things stand.
