Yesterday saw the revival of rains in Tamil Nadu after a few days with many places in Interior Tamil Nadu recording good rains. Vrinchipuram, near Vaniyambadi, recorded about 9 cms of rains till today morning. While thunderstorms developed around Chennai most parts of the city missed out on the rains while Hindustan University in OMR recorded some moderate showers.
Today things are looking better for most parts of South India with Peninsular India benefiting from the Monsoon trough moving South from the foot hills of the Himalayas. Additionally the off shore trough between Konkan & Kerala is expected to trigger some heavy rains in a few places over South Karnataka & Kerala. Along with parts of West Coast one or two places in the Nilgiris is also expected to receive heavy spells of rains.
In the meanwhile Rains in Tamil Nadu is expected to notch up further particularly around North Tamil Nadu which is likely to see fairly intense thunderstorms hit the region under slightly favorable atmospheric conditions. One or two places around Chennai is likely to see heavy spells of rains later in the evening. There is a fair chance for Chennai to also receive a good spell or two of rains with some favorable wind directions.
All in all Rains in Tamil Nadu is set for a Roar today.
