Yesterday saw for the second day rains in Tamil Nadu with quite a few places receiving moderate spells of rains. Thirukoilur in particular received a spell of very heavy rains when more than 5 cms of rains fell in one hour between 4:30 PM & 5:30 PM. Going by the radar & AWS data available the interior places have got the best of the spells though when IMD Chennai releases the Rainfall Report for the day we will know the complete spread of rains. North Tamil Nadu mostly missed out on the rains with only places to the South of Tindivanam enjoying the rains.
With an Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation now developing off Sri Lanka in Southwest Bay we are likely to see more places get rains in Tamil Nadu & Kerala. There is a very good possibility of today being a hatrick day of Rains in Tamil Nadu with possibly only North Coastal Tamil Nadu having lesser chances compared to the interior parts of TN.
Aided by day time heating and well placed to receive moisture through the Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation at upper levels parts of North Interior Tamil Nadu & adjoining districts of Rayalaseema is in line to receive heavy rains in one or two places today. Considering the location of the UAC we are likely to see one or two places in the Western Ghats range of Tamil Nadu receive heavy spells of overnight rains particularly around Kodaikanal / Theni region. Considering the wind directions expected today for thunderstorm movement the chance for North Coastal TN remains less nevertheless we will keep a close watch and see how things evolve for Chennai.
