Continuing with the trend Rains in Kerala occurred over isolated places yesterday with places like Muvattupuzha, Amabalavayal in Wayanad etc recording rains yesterday. Rains slowed down over South Tamil Nadu with Thootukudi port the only place to record fairly heavy spells of rains yesterday.
In the meanwhile last night saw many places over the Eastern side of the Indian Sub Continent come under the impact of the Norwesters or KalBaishaki as they are locally called. These intense thunderstorms that develop over the Gangetic Plains aided by the afternoon heat then start moving in a ENE direction towards West Bengal / Odisha and Bangladesh bringing rains and gusty winds along with it. Packing a punch they can recreate the devastation of a marginal tropical cyclone at a much smaller scale.
Parts of Northeast India & Bangladesh are expected to see another day of KalBaishaki today as well with some places likely to get heavy thunderstorms and may be a bit of hailstorms as well. Some parts of Odisha & West Bengal are likely to see rains as well from similar conditions. Continuing with yesterday’s trends we are likely to see rains in Kerala today as well with possibly parts of North Kerala enjoying the better spells today along with one or two areas of South Karnataka.
Mostly dry weather is likely to prevail over Tamil Nadu with fairly clear skies at many places. Daytime temperatures are likely to see a marginal increase with coastal areas inching closer to 35 while interiors will start moving back to the 38 / 39 degrees as clearer skies start to play a role in modulating day time temperatures.
