In a trend continuing for the last few days Rains in Chennai, yesterday also saw many parts of the City receive spells of rains with one or two heavy spells during the day at a few places. Madhavaram in North Chennai recorded 20 mm till 4:30 AM
Northeast Monsoon Update:
The last couple of days have seen the Easterlies strengthen a fair bit partly aided by the Low Pressure off Kerala coast. With the Low Pressure now moving slowly in a Westerly direction its influence over Peninsular India is waning away. In the meanwhile in a separate development a Trough of Low now has formed over South West Bay with associated Upper Air Cyclonic Circulation. This now now lies off the coast of Sri Lanka and as things stand is not expected to intensify into any organized disturbance.
Under the influence of this Trough of Low and partly aided by the strong Easterlies most parts of Coastal Tamil Nadu could see spells of rains today. Places to the South of Pondicherry could see more widespread rains with few places getting heavy rains at times. Similarly a few places in South Tamil Nadu around Tirunelveli / Thootukudi could also see one or two heavy spells during the day.
Chennai Rain Update : Rains in Chennai is set to continue today as well with spells of moderate rains at intervals expected to hit the city. One or two heavy spells is likely during this period. Towards the evening / late night Chennai could see the rain intensity increase at times though like yesterday it would be interspersed with periods of inactivity right through the day.
