Under a very active Northeast Monsoon spell it was another day of extremely heavy rains over North Coastal Tamil Nadu, Chennai and surrounding areas has been receiving heavy rains with Avadi & Puzhal recording 13 cms from overnight rains while the IMD AWS in Nungambakkam recorded 5 cms rains.
Northeast Monsoon Update: A low pressure area (LPA) has formed over South Arabian Sea off Lakshadweep Islands which would bring in heavy rains over the region along with parts of Coastal Karnataka & Kerala. Coastal TN could also get some spells of rains through this Low Pressure Area.
In another development IMD has confirmed a trough of low has developed near Andaman Islands is and expected to become a Low Pressure Area around 14th November. Models indicate this to develop and move towards South India over early part of next week which could potentially bring heavy rains once again to coastal Tamil Nadu. There is a possibility of some coastal areas of Tamil Nadu between Nagapattinam to Kanyakumari getting very heavy rains with some support from Wind.
Chennai Weather Update: The convergence of Moist Air from the Bay & Continental air from Central India was one of the triggers for the massive rains which North Coastal TN faced overnight. These rains are expected to continue till about 8 / 9 AM post which few spells of on and off rains may continue. Day time temperature is expected to remain around 28°C
